Charging anywhere with LAPP charging cables
The Mode 3 charging cable (also known as a Type 2 charging cable) is part of the basic equipment of every electric car owner. With this charging cable, you can charge your electric car anywhere, whether at public AC charging stations, at the wall charger at work or at home, or in combination with the Mobility Dock at any household socket.
Every e-car driver has different requirements for a charging cable. Many require a long, smooth standard charging cable that can be laid around the car when charging, in case the charging point is on the other side. Others prefer a short spiral charging cable that doesn't lie on the ground when charging and therefore doesn't get dirty.
However, nobody likes the inconvenience of winding up the charging cable and tangled cables in the trunk. We also have a suitable solution for this: our Helix charging cable, which can be easily returned to its original helix shape after charging thanks to its shape memory and can therefore be stored neatly and space-savingly in the trunk.

Mode 3 charging cable: standard at public charging stations
Public charging stations do not have a permanently integrated charging cable. So to charge electric vehicles there, you have to bring the right cable with the right plug types yourself. All German charging stations have a Type 2 socket as standard. So you need a Mode 3 charging cable with a Type 2 plug on one side and the right plug for your electric car on the other.
Specifically, this means that for a car with a Type 1 connector (American or Asian vehicles), you will need a Mode 3 Type 2 to Type 1 charging cable. If your electric car has a Type 2 connection, on the other hand, you will need a Mode 3 Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable for the charging station. Incidentally, the advantage of this charging cable is that the charging plug is locked on both sides when the car is locked. This means that the charging process cannot be interrupted by outside interference.
How fast the car is charged depends on the number of phases and amperes of the charging cable. For example, a 3-phase charging cable with 32A and Type 2 plug charges twice as fast as a 1-phase charging cable with 32A and Type 2 plug.
Charging at home with the Mode 3 charging cable
In addition to public charging stations, a Mode 3 charging cable is also used if you want to connect your electric car to more than just an earthed socket at home. This can be done via a wall charger, i.e. a permanently installed charging station in the garage or outside your home. With the wall charger, you shorten the charging time because it provides a significantly higher charging power: up to 22 kW instead of 2.3 kW with a socket.
The wall charger also works with mode 3 charging cable. In most cases, this is already permanently attached to the box, so it does not have to be purchased. However, it is also important to know which charging plug your vehicle requires.
Normally, a Mode 3 charging cable is about five meters long. In most cases, this is enough to cover the distance between the charging station or wall charger and the electric car. However, the cables are also available in double the length.
