GOLD FOR THE MOBILITY DOCK: Fourth award within a year

25th May 2022

Great success for the MOBILITY DOCK, the innovative charger for electric vehicles from Lapp Mobility. Yesterday it received the coveted German Innovation Award in Gold, and two weeks earlier it had already won the Sustainability Award in Automation.

This means that the MOBILITY DOCK has already won four important awards, as it already received the GERMAN DESIGN AWARD and the eMove360°AWARD in fall 2021. "We are very proud that we have obviously hit a nerve with the MOBILITY DOCK. There was a gap in the range of charging solutions that we were able to close with our innovation," says Frank Hubbert, Managing Director of Lapp Mobility.

A solution that makes our lives better

The German Innovation Award in the highest competition category "Gold" was presented yesterday at a ceremony held by the German Design Council at the Futurium in Berlin. The award recognizes innovative achievements that break new ground through their added value. The focus is on the user experience, with solutions that make our lives better and contribute to a better future.  640 entrants applied for the award. A total of 27 products/projects were awarded the highest distinction of "Gold" - including the MOBILITY DOCK from LAPP.

Sustainability Award in the mobility concepts category

The Sustainability Award in Automation is equally coveted in the industry. It recognizes outstanding examples of sustainable solutions in the areas of environmental and climate protection as well as society and governance in the automotive and mobility industry. It is awarded by the ATZ/MTZ Group and the mobility experts from management consultants Arthur D. Little (ADL) as part of the ATZlive congress "Drives and Energy Systems of Tomorrow 2022" in the three categories of technology, mobility concepts and start-ups. With its MOBILITY DOCK, Lapp Mobility GmbH was one of the winners in the mobility concepts category in the infrastructure sector.

Space-saving, mobile charging station

The jury's enthusiasm for the Mobility Dock is no coincidence. "Our MOBILITY DOCK fully fulfills the function of a mobile charging station, but takes up significantly less space in the trunk," says Frank Hubbert, describing the new product, which was launched in April 2022. The MOBILITY DOCK is a space-saving charger that, in combination with any type 2 charging cable (charging mode 3), allows an electric car to be charged at a standard household socket. This means that electric car drivers need fewer different types of charging cable.

Communication from the MOBILITY DOCK to the vehicle takes place via a control unit integrated in the charger, which sets the charging current up to a maximum of 10A and also monitors the charging process. This achieves a maximum charging power of 2.3 kW, which is set automatically. The device monitors the device temperature and the temperature at the household socket. If an increased temperature is detected at the mains plug, the charger automatically regulates the charging power to prevent overheating. As a further protective function for the user, the charger also includes earth conductor monitoring and the detection of DC and AC faults. Such DC and AC faults are detected and protected up to 6mA DC and 30mA AC. The MOBILITY DOCK is CE-compliant and has been developed and tested in accordance with the IEC62752 equipment standard.

The Mobility Dock can be ordered from the Lapp Mobility online store.
